Ethics
Ethics: a responsibility shared by us all!
ETM asbl strives to create a working environment free from intimidation and abuse. The integrity of our organisation is guaranteed by the good conduct of every employee, in every location, with respect for the communities we help.
ETM’s management is committed to fighting abuse and to strengthening the mechanisms and procedures to prevent and combat it. This includes improving the channels for filing complaints and supporting victims and others who report abuse.
Compliance with the code of ethics
We expect all our employees to respect our core principles, as set out in our Code of Ethics.
For us, this means that we do not tolerate behaviour that exploits vulnerability or abuses our own position for personal gain. We do not tolerate any physical or psychological abuse, sexual harassment or behaviour that does not respect human dignity. Under no circumstances do we tolerate sexual relations with minors.
Prevention through information
We are running an extensive awareness-raising and information campaign among all our employees about our Code of Ethics and the mechanisms available for reporting abuse.
This information is shared through information sessions, field visits and training, among other means. We also organise specific and regular awareness-raising sessions in the field for our partner organisations.
Protecting the victim
If misconduct is reported, our absolute priority is the safety and health of the potential victims and/or the person who reported it. We immediately assess what medical and psychological advice and what legal support are needed.
Privacy
We handle these cases with the utmost discretion and confidentiality. In some cases, the facts are investigated further and certain (preventive) measures and sanctions are taken.
The consequences for the employees and partner organisations concerned can range from an official warning and mandatory guidance/training to temporary or permanent dismissal, or even the suspension or termination of cooperation and funding.
Complaints and notifications
The reporting and complaints mechanisms are designed to prevent all types of misconduct and also to detect and report it and encourage action on it. They invite all employees to report any inappropriate behaviour, harassment or abuse outside the line-management structure. Victims or witnesses in the communities where Enfance Tiers Monde operates are also encouraged to report misconduct so that allegations can be dealt with.
Child Safeguarding Policy
For ETM, the child is at the heart of our work. It is therefore essential for us that the children and young people supported by our actions are protected from all forms of violence and abuse.
