Stronger together: new ETM–Memisa collaboration
In 2026, ETM is stepping up its work in Pawa (Democratic Republic of the Congo) in partnership with the NGO Memisa, which supports the hospital next to the school. This collaboration illustrates the essential link between education and health: a healthy population learns better, while education encourages the adoption of health-promoting behaviour.
The first strand focused on training midwives in order to strengthen local medical skills. This training took place from 11 to 18 June 2026. It forms part of an approach aimed at sustainably building the capacity of local health staff.
The approach also incorporates a gender dimension and the prevention of disabilities linked to childbirth complications, thereby helping to improve birth conditions and children’s development.
In addition, ETM and Memisa are working together to install telecommunications infrastructure giving the Pawa school internet access, thus opening up new prospects for learning and for engaging with the wider world.

The latest addition to the ETM family
We are pleased to announce that the Communauté du Chemin Neuf has joined ETM. This community is present on several continents, including Africa and Asia. Among other things, it runs projects to help people in need.
The first to be supported by ETM is the Ndako ya Biso project (Our House in Lingala). This is the name the young people themselves gave to their shelter in Kinshasa back in 2004, more than 20 years ago. The centre is run by LBM, a local association.
4 main actions :
1. Raising awareness of the problems facing children living and/or working on the streets at 8 sites near the Ngaba roundabout.
2. Care for children at the centre : health, hygiene, literacy, psychological support, meals and accommodation.
3. Family reunification with a relative : family tracing, mediation.
4. Helping children settle back into family life : visits, schooling, micro-loans.

International
New report: What role do the SDGs play in children’s rights?
As a member of the PKIO platform — a network of 14 organisations united to advance children’s rights in Belgian development cooperation — ETM is proud to share the findings of its latest strategic study (April–May 2026).
What is it about? An in-depth analysis of the use of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their indicators in projects funded by the DGD.
The aim? To strengthen our practices and boost the impact of our future programmes. ETM actively contributed to this work alongside 5 other partner NGOs (WAPA, SHC, Plan International, SOS Villages d’Enfants and Dynamo International), in a unique collective effort, overseen by the platform’s steering committee (Plan International, SOS Villages d’Enfants, UNICEF, Louvain Coopération and Dynamo International).

Burkina Faso
Two new classrooms for displaced young people in Bangrin
We are delighted to announce that in February this year the Directorate of Education of Burkina Faso issued an official certificate approving the opening of two newly built classrooms at the Bangrin secondary school.
ETM co-financed the construction of these classrooms, intended to accommodate displaced young people fleeing violence by armed groups in the north of the country. These facilities complement the school set up and expanded by our organisation over the past 10 years. With this certificate, the authorities fully recognise these two classrooms and undertake to ensure that teachers are present on site.
This recognition reflects our close collaboration with the State, both to respond to the humanitarian emergency in Burkina Faso and to align our work with national strategic plans, as a lever for development.
We warmly thank our financial partners, thanks to whom nearly 3,000 pupils now benefit from better learning conditions at the Bangrin secondary school.
