To contribute to the protection, the restoration of dignity and the lasting social integration of street-connected children and young people in Kinshasa.
Objectives
The project pursues four specific objectives:
To take in, protect and support street-connected children in appropriate centres.
To promote lasting family reunification and social reintegration.
To consolidate the stability of reunified children and young people through education, vocational training, psychosocial support and economic support for families.
To raise awareness among community stakeholders so that they become more familiar with children’s rights and develop a more protective attitude towards street-connected children and young people.
Activities
Main results of the Ndako ya Biso project since 2004:
- Reunification of more than 3,500 children with their families: currently 150 per year.
- Schooling for hundreds of children: 350 children supported in their schooling each year, visits to partner schools.
- Support for many young people in vocational training: 30 per year.
- Economic support and follow-up for vulnerable families: 150 micro-loans granted per year.
- Development of a vocational integration centre for around a hundred young people per year.
Experience shows that the lasting reintegration of children/young people requires a holistic approach involving the child, their family and their social environment.
